Blood pressure responds to consistency far more than intensity. Here are the five habits I return to with almost every patient.

1. Salt awareness, not salt panic

Most excess sodium comes from packaged food rather than the salt shaker. Reading labels for a fortnight teaches more than any diet chart.

2. Thirty minutes of walking

Brisk walking on most days lowers systolic readings by a meaningful margin within weeks.

3. Sleep as medicine

Under six hours a night keeps the sympathetic nervous system switched on. Protect a regular bedtime.

4. Measure at home, correctly

Seated, back supported, arm at heart level, after five minutes of rest. Record two readings each morning.

5. Take the tablet at the same time daily

Adherence beats dose escalation. Anchor it to an existing routine such as brushing your teeth.
